Television’s Most Popular Programs, According to Reddit
Is our beloved Lucille Ball one of the favorite television shows of all time, or has she fallen out of favor for newer, fresher shows? Reddit is about to tell you.
There is a wide variety of opinions when it comes to the best television shows of all time. Everyone has their favorites. No matter what it is, someone is bound to hate your favorite show, and too often it’s the television networks, pulling your beloved show off air! There are so many different styles of shows that picking THE top television show can be pretty near impossible.
Reddit, a website where users can post content for others to read, has compiled a list of the top two hundred television shows. Though there is sure to be disagreement with the list, the site believes that these shows are some of the top things to watch on the tube.
Topping Reddit’s list is “Arrested Development,” a comedy/sitcom that came out in 2003. The show follows a widower as he works to keep his large family functioning after his father is arrested.
Second on the list is “Firefly.” Released in 2002, the show is a comedy Sci-Fi/Space Western and chronicles the life of the crew on a transport ship named Serenity.
“Dexter” is a criminal drama/thriller that began in 2006 and comes in at third place on Reddit’s list. Dexter is a Miami police officer by day but a murderer by night. This drama follows his life as he works to keep up two contrary personalities.
Fourth is another criminal drama, with a bit of political twist, called “The Wire.” This show was released in summer of 2002 on HBO. According to imdb.com, the show takes a look at the Baltimore drug scene through the eyes of drug dealers and police officers both.
Number five is the oldest show to appear on the list to this point, as well as the first animated show. “Futurama” started airing in 1999 and tells the story of a pizza guy who finds himself one thousand years in the future. After a seven year break in 2003, the show started airing again in 2010 and is expected to keep showing through at least season seven in 2013 according to imdb.com.
“Game of Thrones,” “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “South Park,” and “30 Rock” round out the top ten shows on the list, which can be found at http://www.listal.com/list/reddit-top-200-tv-shows.
Other favorites such as “The Office,” Seinfeld,” “Lost,” “The Simpsons,” “Scrubs,” “The Colbert Report,” “Whose Line is it Anyway?,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and “True Blood” are also among the top fifty shows.
The list contains shows from as far back as the 1950s (“The Twilight Zone”) and represents each decade up until present with shows still airing today including old favorites such as “M*A*S*H,” “Cheers,” “MacGyver,” “The Wonder Years,” and “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
While everyone has a different opinion on what makes a good television show, Reddit’s list does a pretty good job of representing many of these different styles and genres. When looking for a new show to pick up watching, this top 200 list is a great place to start.
